CERAMIC INCENSE HOLDER FOR AUURA INCENSE
2026
Created for Auura Incense, this incense holder consists of two interlocking ceramic elements made from clay and fired in a sourdough mixture. The two parts fit into one another, forming a sculptural object designed to hold incense.
The surface of the ceramic gradually darkens through use, recording the effects of heat, smoke, and time. Rather than remaining unchanged, the object evolves through its interaction with the ritual it accompanies. Its transformation becomes an integral part of the design, allowing traces of use to accumulate on the material.
By combining clay with sourdough, the piece brings together ceramic firing and the processes of fermentation associated with bread-making. The incense holder becomes an object shaped not only by its making, but also by its continued use, where material transformation and everyday ritual remain closely connected.
