TOGEPI & LASTRYKO by ZRYW STUDIO︎︎︎ a porcelain scrapbook

2021

TOGEPI and LASTRYKO are two porcelain sets
representing the less-waste movement. They are made from leftover coloured slips using a method developed by us. The set consists of 3 elements: an espresso cup, medium 300 ml cup and a vase. Each object can function separately and can be easily stacked to minimize the occupied space. These sets are the product of a close observation of a daily rhythm of ceramic slip casting workshops / studios. During the process of casting the vessels, there is always some amount of coloured slipleft, which is often being thrown away or stored endlessly. Therefore, we are striving to provide a purpose for these forever-accumulating leftovers. TOGEPI is made by casting the leftovers in small moulds which help us to create particular, abstract shapes. Freshly casted elements are ready to be put into the porcelain slip creating the unique pattern. LASTRYKO is made out of flakes of leftover coloured porcelain.

This idea was born in between words during conversations about different approaches to sustainable desig. The taks about over – exploitation of natural resources, recycling, ethics and responsibilities of a ceramic designer's work and appreciate objects and materials that we already have. These talks were inevitable since we are both ceramicists with 9 years of experience with working within the ceramic field. We are aware of how important it is to plan even the smallest details of the design / production processes.
